Grants and subsidies for business: QazInnovations, Science Fund, akimats, Ministry of Agriculture
Besides the 400 MCI grant there are larger grants and subsidies: QazInnovations technology commercialisation grants up to ₸80 million, the Science Fund, akimat competitions for social entrepreneurs and investment subsidies from the Ministry of Agriculture. QazInnovations: technology commercialisation grants
The National Agency for Technological Development awards innovation grants in two stages: the first up to ₸20 million for 6 months, the second up to ₸80 million for 18 months. The applicant co-finances at least 10%, and the second stage requires at least 30% in raised investment. Small companies with a prototype that have been through acceleration or incubation can apply.
The full application includes a business plan, financial model, schedule, budget and marketing plan. It goes through technology, financial-economic and legal reviews, then the project is defended before the Grant Council. Funds are paid through escrow. The first-stage competition of 2026 took place in spring; the next is announced on the agency’s website.
Science Fund: commercialisation of research results
Grants for commercialising the results of scientific and technical activity go to research organisations, universities and companies with private co-financing. Instead of a business plan they submit a technology plan and an economic plan with marketing and calculations, in effect a business plan with a financial model. Applications for 2026–2028 were accepted from 10 December 2025 to 10 January 2026.
Akimat grants for social entrepreneurs
The Astana and Almaty akimats hold competitions for grants of up to ₸5 million for social enterprises. Co-financing of at least 20% and a business plan or investment plan with jobs are required. A competition commission judges the applications; deadlines are announced on the akimats’ websites.
Ministry of Agriculture: investment subsidies
Agricultural companies are reimbursed part of their construction and equipment costs, usually 15–50% depending on the line of business. Applications are accepted from 1 February to 15 December through the subsidy information system, and the decision takes 14 working days. When new capacity is built, the money is paid in two tranches, and the second requires a business plan confirming the facility has reached capacity.
