We defend the project before the committee together with the client. From ₸350,000, from 3 working days.

When a bank needs a business plan

Banks issue unsecured express loans by scoring account turnover: Halyk Bank decides on a business loan up to ₸300 million in 10 minutes, Bereke Bank gives sole proprietors up to ₸15 million online, ForteBank up to ₸10 million in 3 minutes with 6 months of account history. Nobody reads a business plan there.

The document matters when the amount exceeds the express limits, when the loan is for investment, secured by collateral, or goes through a state programme via the DAMU fund. Then the bank assesses the project, not just the account history, and asks for a business plan with a financial model, financial statements and collateral documents.

What the credit committee checks

Terms differ between banks, but the logic of the check is the same. Bereke Bank, for example, requires collateral to cover at least 90% of the obligations and accepts real estate, cash, movable property and DAMU guarantees. The rest is judged from the document.

  • Financial statements and turnover for recent periods, tax arrears and overdue payments at any bank or microfinance organisation.
  • Collateral: type, valuation, coverage of the loan amount with interest.
  • Sources of repayment: what pays the debt if revenue comes in below plan.
  • Market and sales: who you sell to, whether there are contracts or confirmed demand.
  • Financial model for the whole loan term: revenue, costs, cash flow, debt-service headroom.

What the business plan must contain

The bank reads the document as a credit analyst, not as an investor: what matters is repayment, not the idea. So the structure is always the same; the content changes to fit the specific bank’s requirements.

  • Project summary: amount, term, purpose of the loan and source of repayment in three sentences.
  • Description of the business and the team’s experience, backed by documents.
  • Market: size, competitors, prices, the share you can realistically take.
  • Production or operating plan: capacity, suppliers, equipment quotes.
  • Financial model: at least for the loan term, monthly for the first year, with base and stress scenarios.
  • Risks and how they are covered, including collateral and insurance.
  • Appendices: statements, quotes, letters of intent, collateral documents.

Why banks refuse

From our projects and the banks’ public explanations, refusals come down to five reasons. Four of them are visible in the document before submission, and we close them during preparation.

  • Overdue payments, tax arrears or account restrictions for the company or its founders.
  • Collateral does not cover the loan amount or is valued below expectations.
  • The sales plan is backed by nothing but words: no contracts, orders or sales history.
  • Figures contradict each other across sections: capacity does not match revenue, costs do not match headcount.
  • Cash flow is not enough to service the debt in the stress scenario.

DAMU subsidies and guarantees through the bank

If the project meets the DAMU fund’s criteria, the same business plan also unlocks preferential terms: an interest subsidy for micro and small business on loans up to ₸200 million, a fund guarantee of up to 85% of the loan when collateral is short, and preferential lending at 12.6% through partner banks. The application goes to the bank, the bank forwards the documents to the fund’s regional branch, and the fund reviews them within 5 working days. See the page on business plans for DAMU.
